Introduction

Albion Foods, is a job we undertook working under Select Technology an IT support company based in Kent. Albion Foods is a leading food supplier to restaurants across London and the Southeast, was moving into a new 240,884 square foot facility in Dartford. They required a comprehensive network infrastructure for their warehouse, canteen, and offices, including a robust wireless network to support barcode scanners throughout the warehouse. Given the extensive racking and storage, a full wireless survey was essential. HQ Cabling Services was tasked with providing a timely, budget-friendly solution to ensure Albion Foods could transition seamlessly from their old premises to the new Dartford site.

Solution

To accommodate the expansive site, HQ Cabling Services installed over eight communication cabinets. Fibre optic cables (OS2 8 core) were laid from the main cabinet to the other seven, enabling a 10GB connection across the network backbone.

Extensive containment solutions were necessary to manage the significant volume of cabling. HQ installed 100x50mm galvanized trunking leading to cabinet locations, 150mm cable trays at high levels, and 100mm baskets atop both chiller locations.

Following the fibre installation, HQ proceeded with the installation and testing of CAT 6 cabling for various network outlets throughout the offices. In total, over 250 CAT 6 desk outlets were installed.

Additionally, HQ installed 121 CAT 6 high-level points and UniFi Wireless Access Points. To optimize the performance of the access points, they were strategically placed at the lowest possible height without risking contact with forklifts manoeuvring between the racking.

All cabling was rigorously tested using a Fluke DSX-5000, ensuring compliance with manufacturer standards and providing a 25-year guarantee on the cabling.

Conclusion

The project was executed efficiently and within the specified budget, allowing Albion Foods to smoothly relocate to their new Dartford facility. This case demonstrates HQ Cabling Services’ expertise in delivering comprehensive and reliable network infrastructure solutions tailored to client requirements.
